out of balance

Today I heard the line, “there is nothing wrong about consumption, its just right now it is out of balance”. I think that was the piece I was missing to my perspective. Lately I’ve been plagued with these thoughts of consumption and how its slowly destroying our lives. And I’ve been looking at consumption as a double edged sword. We need it and yet it will eventually bring about our destruction. Now though, I think it is overconsumption that is the problem. And how consumption has warped the minds of so many people. Consumption as a lifestyle, consumption for the sake of consumption, these are the main problems, not consumption itself. Does that make sense?

Where was I?

My last post was incomplete.

I'm on the bus now just thinking.

I think that there is a reason why each person is born. But it is not as personal as most people would believe. I believe that it is not the individual that has a destiny, but all of mankind. Most people spend there whole life trying to figure out their own lives when they really should be considering how their lives fit into the bigger picture.

If mankind were to be thought of as a single entity then each person becomes a part of a giant whole. Like the cells of our own body, each person functions as part of a giant living organism.

Our reason for being isn't what we accomplish in our lives, it is what we impart on the future of mankind.

I am not trying to lead this thought into a religious ending. Nor am I trying to lead you down a road that finds a certain religion to be right or wrong about creation or life itself. In fact I am trying to reason a Pan-religious theory. An idea about life, that fits across all religions.

So it rained today.

So lately ive been dealing with this change the world desire. This stems from the idea that we all have a purpose. Well actually its a bit more complicated than that.

I've been playing around with the idea that humans have a purpose. That we all exist for a reason. The reason however is not a singular or individual thing. You see most people try to figure out what their purpose in life is. If they find it then good for them, but if they don't find it they either give up on it or kill themselves in a mindless rage of pointlessness. I think when you look at your life as a singular thing. That is, your reason for being alive only effects yourself, then you'll never see a point.

There are also some who don't care. Somewhere along the way they heard the line "life is about living" and they adopted a lifestyle that was purely about experiencing as much fun as possible before they die. We're only on this earth for a finite period of time and therefore that means keep the party going cause it'll end any minute. I think that's crap. I think that there is more to life than just life. And this pleasure seeking lifestyle is working against us.

Taking a moment during Lunch.

So I'm at work and it's lunch time. Thought I'd take a moment to blog.

Today is a Friday. But not any Friday, a Summer Friday. So what does that mean? It means that the entire office has the day off from work. Except for me. But that's OK.

I like the silence of an empty office. The sun is shining and I do have work I need to do.

Others misfortune.

Last Friday on the way home there was a big storm. It was 5pm and the sky was black. I went to take the bus home from work. At the bus stop nearly everyone was standing far away from the curb. Either huddled under the bus stop weather box or way back by whatever doorway they could find. Me though, I decide screw the torrential downpour and take out my umbrella that a coworker lent me. So I go stand by curb with rain coming down hard. I think like one other person is doing the same as me. You have to understand, on a normal day there are a ton of people all getting in each others way trying to stand at this bus stop. On that day they were all scared if the rain.

So the point? So while I'm standing listening to my ipod standing in the rain my eyes are just randomly wondering around. Finally when I look down at the street at the river of rain water, the piles of leaves and garbage all soaked I see a peculiar wire warped up in leaves and maybe hair. At least it felt like hair. The wire looked familiar. Black and white cord all balled up with soaked trash and leaves.

So I pick it up. I remove the leaves and trash and find. (rpg reward sound with narrator) - YOU FIND A PAIR OF BO$E EARPHONES. I look around and see no one looking for them. Who knows how long they sat there covered in trash. The one person who noticed me pick it up had a disapproving look of garbage picker on his face.

So these are soaked. Really soaked. Through and through. The earbuds have mud and dirt in them. So I stuff it into my pocket. I decided if they are going to work I need to get them completely dry before I test it out.

Over the weekend I left them in a napkin by the window. Some sun and a napkin to absorb moisture. I'm telling you all this cause I just tested them and it turns out I now own a pair of full functioning bo$e earphones.

Market price about $99

Don's price? 0

Funny thing is a few weeks ago I was thinking about it and I said to myself the only way I'd ever own a pair of bo$e headphones is if I found them or someone gave them to me as a gift.

There's my bit of story. Ttyl8r

People in General and God

So not so long ago I came up with a weird fictional religious creation theory. What I mean by fictional, is that I thought it might be fun to write a story about people who believed in this religious creation theory and how it would effect our lovely civilization.

I'm sure there are books out there that are like that. For example there is probably someone out there who has written about a world in which all the people adopted a single religion and the problems something like that would cause.

Well my idea is more of a different take on that.

The idea is basically you have this guy who one day comes up with this crazy theory on creation. This guy is no scientist and is the furthest from a theist as you can get.

So out of the blue he has this Creation Theory and he starts to talk to his friends about it. The religious friends think its nonsense and the atheist friend tell him its interesting but they wouldn't want to bothered by it.

Anyway as the story goes he decides to put his theory out on the Internet. Immediately millions of people start to argue about validity and blasphemy.

Not too long after this occurs, the most unlikely event happens. God visits Earth, and informs everyone that the theory was right and god had just been waiting until someone blogged about it before he'd make his grand appearance.

Blogging the blogverse. Why the hell is it so important?

Is it just me or does the advertising world think that blogging is so amazingly important. And yet haven't realized that only people in the industry are reading. Blog Blog Blog. As if gaining readership is so darn important.

The line is "we do social media because everyone is doing social media".

It's all a joke.

I told my mother.

So after putting it off for about a month now, I finally told mom that I was moving back to Illinois.

Don't know which of my friends know or don't know. It suffices to say most people I talk to on a normal basis already know. I still haven't told Vega, I wonder when I will get around to doing that.

We've been looking at apartments recently, some of them are priced really great. And really close to the city. Burbs are for wimps!

Adventure is just over that mountain.

BOOMER!

Today on the train, as I was reading a new zombie novel, I heard a curious splashing sound. When I looked to see what it was, I saw water falling to the floor in the center of the train car I was in. "That's odd" I thought. Why would would someone just spill out their water like that? Then just as it stopped I realized what it was, only to see it again, this time with more color. Today I witnessed an explosion of vomit on the train. Luckily no one said anything until I got to the station I wanted to get off at. Curious though, it would seem that the MTA has plain clothes workers riding the subway. One guy wearing regular clothes took out his walkie talkie and began informing someone of the problem.
